Da die Kasten die gesellschaftliche Realität Indiens in vielen Bereichen noch immer bestimmen und sie aufgrund der Demokratisierung Indiens nach der Unabhängigkeit als einheitliche Wählergruppe auch verstärkt politischen Einfluß ausüben, hält die Diskussion über dieses gesellschaftliche Phänomen unvermindert an.
